The DMV is not fun. I am a huge Parks and Recreation fan and the fourth floor of the city hall building has a DMV-esque feel to it. The following are the rules for visits to the fourth floor which would probably come in handy for your next DMV visit as well:
- Do not make eye contact with anyone.
- Do not speak to anyone.
- Do not accept suspicious packages from anyone.
- Do not answer any ringing pay phones.
- If you see any loose animals, do not approach them.
- Do not eat anything you find, even if it is in its original, sealed packaging.
- Do not under any circumstances stop moving for more than 4 - 5 seconds.
- And if a man named Gary introduces himself, find the nearest BLUE PHONE and alert security immediately.
- Other than that, have fun!
On my most recent visit, even though I had everything the website said to have, I had to go three times before I got my new license. Each time, after waiting hours, they only told me one of several things I needed to do. It was a scavenger hunt of sorts in which the employees collaborated to divulge one clue per visit. Worst. game. ever.
The DMV must be a tricky place to work though. I'm sure the employees get treated poorly on a regular basis. That would make anyone mad.
But I'm here to tell you not everyone who works at the DMV is mad or playing games with your life. There is a girl, Kerry, who dutifully processes endless license renewals and cheerfully snaps pictures of irritated humans standing in front of blue screens. She is more than just a girl who asks you if you would like to be an organ donor or register to vote, however. She sews. Oh boy, does she sew. Here are my items from her shop which I (no joke) use every single day.
She is the owner of the fantastically named shop from which I will host a giveaway this week. Her shop, The Tragic Whale, is a place to find one of a kind bags of all shapes and sizes for your stuff. Her shop was birthed out of a need for quality bags in which to house her own stuff. Probably the stuff she carts back and forth from the DMV but I cannot say for sure. That's purely conjecture.
Kerry has generously offered to give away not one but THREE items from her shop to the winner of this week's giveaway. The best part is that you get to choose which items! They would make great Christmas presents!! I actually learned about The Tragic Whale from a giveaway I won a few months ago. I, too, received three bags and was going to give two away. But when they came in the mail, I knew they were all mine.
If you're thinking to give them away, I wish you the very best of luck. I was not strong enough.
Today we are using a new way to enter the giveaway. You can either enter your email or sign in using your facebook login information. You will be prompted to do various things to enter and it will keep track for you of how many entries you've completed.
Get to entering and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
